INTRODUCTION
Yuri: In today's lesson, we'll go over our top five favorite phrases.
Iva: Yes. These are phrases that we chose. We chose phrases that we find useful or interesting and that are used a lot in Bulgarian.
Yuri: That's right.

Lesson focus
Yuri: So Iva, what's our first phrase?
Iva: “Как си?”
Yuri: And what does that mean?
Iva: It means "How are you doing?"
Yuri: Do you hear this phrase often?
Iva: Every day. It's a normal, casual phrase.
Yuri: Is it slang?
Iva: No. It's a little too casual for a business meeting, but is very normal for conversation.
Yuri: So it's kind of like "How’re you doing?" instead of "How are you?"
Iva: Yes, pretty much.
Yuri: What's our next phrase?
Iva: “Добре съм.”
Yuri: What does this mean?
Iva: Literally, "I'm well," but we use it like "I'm good."
Yuri: Do you hear this very often?
Iva: Every day. Actually, the usual response to this phrase will be just “Добре.” and that's what everyone says in normal conversation. It's always shortened.
Yuri: Really? That's good to know. What's our next phrase?
Iva: “Къде е?” which means...
Yuri: Where?
Iva: “Къде е?” has more formal equivalent, which is “Къде се намира?”.
Yuri: But you normally use “Къде е?” with your friends to ask for things you have trouble finding. So what's our next phrase?
Iva: “Точно така.”
Yuri: Which means?
Iva: Exactly.
Yuri: Literally, this phrase translates to "exactly this way." Right?
Iva: Yes, and people use it constantly as a confirmation of what was said.
Yuri: Exactly. I remember it can be shortened as “Точно”.
Iva: Right.
Yuri: What's our last vocabulary word?
Iva: “Нали?”
Yuri: I love this word.
Iva: Really? Why?
Yuri: Because Bulgarians use it often to make sure they understand you.
Iva: Yes, and to see if their listeners agree with what they are saying.
Yuri: It's used as a question marker. "Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, isn't it?" or in Bulgarian...
Iva: "Blah, blah, blah, “нали?”"
Yuri: Good point. “Нали?” really is a very useful phrase.
Iva: Yes it is.
