Hi Rohanns,

Thank you for your question. In a typical simple question in Bulgarian, you add the particle ли right after the verb. It might be considered a shorter form of the question word дали, closely translated as "whether". So you have two options to ask a simple question in Bulgarian, although the first one is often preferred, for instance:

(1) Говориш ли български? "Do you speak Bulgarian?"

(2) Дали говориш български? "Do you speak Bulgarian?"

(1) Знаеш ли къде се намира Враца? "Do you know where Vratsa is located?"

(2) Дали знаеш къде се намира Враца? "Do you know where Vratsa is located?"

You can also have a question with the two forms in use:

Знаеш ли, дали той ще дойде? "Do you know whether he will come?"

In this case, the дали question form is always preferred for the conditional sentence.

I hope that this rather long explanation answers your short question :) If you have any other comments, please do not hesitate to let us know.

All the best,

Tina
