Michael: And welcome to Culture Class: Essential Bulgarian Vocabulary, Lesson 22! In this lesson you'll learn five essential words related to transportation and around town. Michael: The pharmacy is where you can buy prescription and over-the-counter drugs in Bulgaria. In the last few years, pharmacies have expanded their offerings, adding more cosmetics products as well.

Michael: There are a lot of different supermarket chains in Bulgarian cities. They differ according to their price category, quality of service, and variety of products.

Michael: The trade centers that are called "malls" in Bulgaria usually accommodate fashion retail floors, a food corner, restaurants and cafes, and an entertainment corner with a movie theater. Along with the commercial section, the upper floors are usually offices.

Michael: Small specialized stores such as bakeries, butcheries, fruit and vegetable stands, liquor stores, and fish stores used to be quite common in Bulgaria. When bigger retail chains entered the market, smaller shops started to disappear. Bakeries are almost the only ones that managed to survive.
