| Matt: In this lesson, you'll learn how to sign up for a course over the phone. |
| Tina: The conversation takes place in Milena's room where she is making a phone call. |
| Matt: It’s between Milena and a customer service employee, and Milena wants to sign up for Spanish language course. |
| Tina: The speakers don't know each other, so they’ll be using formal Bulgarian. |

| Tina: Yes, I think language courses are very popular among Bulgarian people. |
| Matt: All Bulgarians must study foreign languages in school, but some people need to attain greater proficiency or variety, so they decide to take additional courses in language schools. |
| Tina: That’s true. |
| Matt: What other courses are popular among Bulgarian people? |
| Tina: IT-related courses are also quite popular, since the IT industry has recently become quite developed in Bulgaria. |
| Matt: There are many online courses available to the public as well, right? |
| Tina: Yes, and you can also find more specialized courses in cosmetics, hairdressing and the like. |
| Matt: There are drawing courses, yoga courses, acting courses, cooking courses...you name it! |
| Tina: There’s almost an endless number of courses you can take in Bulgaria! |

| Matt: Let’s take a closer look at the usage of some of the words and phrases from this lesson. |
| Tina: Let’s start with “В брой”. |
| Matt: This means "in cash". I suppose it’s used the same way as in English, right? |
| Tina: That’s right. It’s composed of the preposition "в" and the masculine form of the noun "брой." |
| Matt: How about a different way of paying like "with credit card"? |
| Tina: In Bulgarian, you say "с кредитна карта." |
| Matt: Ok. What’s the next word? |
| Tina: Another payment method, "По банков път". |
| Matt: This phrase means "by bank transfer"… |
| Tina: Here, note that Bulgarian people say "път" instead of the word "transfer.” |
| Matt: What does that mean? |
| Tina: It literally means "way." |
| Matt: I see. And what’s the third word? |
| Tina: The third one is "Начин". |
| Matt: This is a noun meaning "way" as in "manner” or “method”. But listeners, please don’t confuse this with any alternate meaning of the word “way,” such as "road." |
| Tina: This word is in the masculine, so when you ask a question like "In what way?" for example, you will say "По какъв начин?" matching the question word "какъв" in the masculine. |
| Matt: Okay, now onto the grammar. |

| Tina: Yes, and you’ll specifically learn how to sign up for a language course. |
| Matt: To do this, you usually use adverbs, which describe the order of events that have to happen, as well as some verbs in the present tense. |
| Tina: Yes. Since calling a company on the phone is a fairly formal situation, the language we will use now is formal. |
| Matt: Let’s look at one example from the dialogue... |
| Tina: ...първо избирате ниво на владеене от интернет страницата ни… |
| Matt: This means “First you choose the level of proficiency from our Internet page.” Tina, can you break down this sentence? |
| Tina: In this sentence we have the word "първо," which means "first," and which is necessary to express the order of events/actions. |
| Matt: And next? |
| Tina: Next is the verb form "избирате." Listeners, note that this is not conjugated as the imperative "изберете." |
| Matt: We don’t use the imperative here because the speaker is suggesting what is necessary to do, but is not giving orders. |
| Tina: And after that we have the phrase "ниво на владеене" meaning "level of proficiency," the preposition "от" meaning "from", and "интернет страницата ни" meaning "our Internet page." |
| Matt: And once again, altogether… |
| Tina: ...първо избирате ниво на владеене от интернет страницата ни... |
| Matt: OK. And we have a list of words that you could use in this case. Tina will give the Bulgarian words first, then I’ll say the English translation right after that. Are you ready, Tina? |
| Tina: Yes. Let’s start with the word "първо" |
| Matt: This means “first” |
| Tina: Next is "след това" |
| Matt: Which means “after that” |
| Tina: "и накрая" |
| Matt: Which means “and finally” |
| Tina: "после" |
| Matt: and next... |
| Tina: "най-накрая" |
| Matt: Which means “at the end”. You can use these words freely, so you can remember their order and choose which one to use when you’re giving instructions, like in our dialogue. Alright, what’s our last example, Tina? |
| Tina: Now we have Най-накрая остава да решите кога да започнете курса |
| Matt: What does it mean? |
| Tina: It means “Finally, you have to decide when to start the course.” |
