Introduction
Becky: Welcome to 3-Minute Bulgarian Season 1, Lesson 2 - Greetings. In this lesson, you’ll learn how to greet someone when you arrive and what to say when you part in Bulgarian.
Body
Becky: Here's the informal way to say 'Hi.' in Bulgarian.
Petar: [Normal] Здравей(Zdravey)
Becky: This expression has only one word meaning 'Hi'
Petar: [Normal] Здравей! [Slow] Здравей! (Zdravey!)
Becky: Listen again to the informal word meaning 'Hi.'
Petar: [Slow] Здравей [Normal] Здравей
Becky: Ok, now let's take a look at the formal way to say 'Good day.'

Petar: [Normal] До скоро!
Becky: First is a word meaning 'till'
Petar: [Normal] до [Slow] до(do)

Petar: [Normal] скоро [Slow] скоро(skoro)

Petar: [Normal] довиждане [Slow] довиждане(dovizhdane)
Becky: Listen again to the formal word meaning 'Goodbye.'
Petar: [Slow] Довиждане! [Normal] Довиждане!
Cultural Insight
Becky: Now it's time for a quick cultural insight.
Petar: Bulgarians use a lot of words borrowed from other languages, and one of these is used for “Goodbye.”! In Bulgaria, we say "Чао" (Ciao) just like Italians. But unlike Italian, it is used only for saying "Goodbye" and never ever for a "hello". You might hear it used quite often among friends in Bulgaria. Try to say it yourself to your Bulgarian friends! Ciao!

Outro

Becky: And that’s all for this lesson. Don’t forget to check out the lesson notes, and we’ll see you in the next lesson!
Petar: До скоро!

Hi John,

when you get to the level series lessons, you will notice that the structure of the material change and gradually we introduce different grammar details along with cultural insights. The introductory lessons contain more ready to use phrases which are useful to get a feel of the language and use in basic interactions.

We hope you will enjoy the coming lessons and get more confident in using Bulgarian. We will also appreciate your feedback along your learning journey.

Kind regards,

Tina

😞I seem to need a more structured approach. Your lessons are really phrase book type lessons. I was taught grammar first - how to construct a simple sentence followed by gender variations, irregular verbs etc. I cannot get to grips with your method at the moment. I hope things will get better and I can get my tongue around some of your phrases!😞

Hi Mihai,

Let me suggest this improvement of your phrase:

Да, много благодаря! Аз пиша и говоря малко български, така че вече знам тази думи.

Yes, thank you. I write and speak some Bulgarian, therefore I already know this word.

Kind regards,

Tina,
